Spotlight on the South of France

Visiting the South of France this summer? Make sure you read this insider guide first to get the very best tips for enjoying this romantic region.

Top tips for Provence

Provence is known for its food so when it comes to quality restaurants you’re spoilt for choice. Here are our top three places to eat to help you narrow it down…

1. Chez Bruno, truffle fans rejoice as this cosy eatery is known as the finest truffle restaurant in France. Decorated in a homely, country style - if you’re partial to truffle then you’ll be in heaven.

2. La Bonne Etape. For those looking for something extra special, La Bonne Etape is a Michelin starred, A-List celeb hot spot that will not disappoint. It’s not cheap, but the experience is worth every penny.

3. Plage d’Argent, is a stunning beachfront restaurant, hugely popular and definitely one to try if you like seafood. The sea views are exquisite, and the vast terrace has a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere.

Sightseeing is a must in Provence, if you go anywhere, make sure at least one of the below spots is on your hit list…

1. Gorge du Verdon, one of the most beautiful river canyons in Europe, making a fantastic day trip for those who like adventure. Rock climb, hike or kayak your way down the gorge for the ultimate outdoor experience.

2. Cassis, is a scenic fishing port famous for its white stone and cliffs, in fact, it’s home to one of the highest coastal bluffs in Europe. You can check it out with a coastline cruise.

3. Vaison-La-Romaine Ville Medievale. Just under an hour from Avignon this picturesque town is filled with medieval ruins to explore and castle perched at the top of a hill where you can enjoy spectacular views.

Top tips for the Cote D’Azur

Known as the French Riviera, famous for yachting, sensational weather and all-round luxury. The restaurants are no exception, here are our top picks.

1. La Mome, Cannes, is a treat. Serving the finest Mediterranean cuisine using seasonal, local produce. The raw bar dishes up ceviche and tartare, and the atmosphere is the epitome of luxury.

2. Mirazur in Menton, is a terrace restaurant with its own citrus grove and avocado trees. The Argentinian head chef devises tasting menus that have earned him a Michelin star and international acclaim. For show-stopping food and stunning scenery eat here.

3. Majestic Beach is a boujis hotel complex with numerous bars and restaurants that line the coast. Take your pick, they are all exquisite. Our favourite is La Rotonde, the Veuve Clicquot bar, for obvious reasons.

There is plenty to see and do on the Core D’Azur but here’s three places you cannot miss.

1.       Grasse, the perfume capital of the world, is a gorgeous medieval village and worthy of a visit if you find yourself between Nice and Cannes. The hills are awash with lavender, a sensory delight.

2.       Monaco, a must-visit country (the world’s second smallest) simply for the fame if nothing else. Check out the Monte-Carlo casino and the Monaco Cathedral for two very different sight-seeing experiences that give you a rounded view of this picturesque place.

3.       Nice Old Town, or Vieille Ville, is spectacularly colourful and quaint. Amble down the narrow streets then take a seat in the square, perfect for people watching, and enjoying the local coffee and patisserie.

Spotlight on St Tropez

The glitz and glamour of St Tropez is electric and luxury beach clubs and restaurants are not in short supply, here’s our top three.

1. La Vague d'Or, is a fine dining experience you won’t want to miss. Set on the beach front, with no less than three Michelin stars and incredible sea views, everything about this restaurant is spot on.

2. Club 55, is a chic beach club set on a quiet part of Pamplona beach. The concept is simple, relaxed yet sophisticated – a favourite for discerning clientele.

3. Byblos - another prestigious beach club makes it into our top three spots in St Tropez. The service here is second to none and the seafood is simply the best.

There are many beautiful places to visit in St Tropez but our must-see three are as follows;

1. The Harbour is a sight to behold if you like strolling past super yachts and rubbing shoulders with those found on the worlds rich list. Enjoy the beautiful setting and warm weather.

2. Plage de l'Escalet is a fabulous, isolated beach that is worth a visit. With golden sands and translucent water in this secluded part of the coast, it’ll be hard to leave!

3. Domaine des Tournels. A trip to France wouldn’t be complete without a tour of a vineyard, and we love Domaine des Tournels. Just outside of St Tropez in the picturesque village of Ramatuelle enjoy a tour and tasting – the white and rose get our vote.
