Originally a 16-century watermill and recently renovated to exceed all standards of modern-day luxury, there is no detail spared when it comes to elegant rural living. Encased in the wild countryside of the Parc Naturel Regional des Causses du Quercy, the abundantly green vistas that accompany your morning coffee will take your breath away each time.
Inside Le Moulin, the ceilings are clad with exposed wooden beams, and stone walls are set off against plush modern furnishings. Up to 10 guests can be comfortably accommodated between two properties: The Miller’s House and The Tower. The Miller’s House has two spacious double bedrooms and a twin, as well as a large living and dining area with an adjoining farmhouse kitchen. An interconnecting terrace links to The Tower, where there is another twin bedroom and a further double. Here, a separate cocktail bar and lounge area, opening out onto the pool terrace, provides ample space for mixed or multi-generational groups. Wile away an evening over a board game or enjoy a cosy movie night by the fireplace.
A roomy seating area for up to 12 diners is surrounded by flora, fauna, and twinkling lanterns, with views down to the valley on one side and the riverbank and beach on the other. A second al fresco dining area spills out from the kitchen’s French doors, shaded by a gorgeous mature wisteria pergola. Some 15 acres of land surround the property, and within them you will find a fabulous 12-metre pool, grass tennis courts, riverside ping pong, croquet, and river canoes.
Nestled within a valley to the north of the national park, the undulating slopes surrounding Le Moulin are a walker’s paradise. Well-marked footpaths take you straight from the house to the nearby villages, or you can choose a gentle cycle along the riverside. The closest town, Carjac, is a 15-minute drive away. Visit on a Saturday, and you won’t be able to resist taking home endless supplies of freshly baked bread, custard-filled pastries, local cuts of cured meat, and regional wines from the rows of market stalls.
