The intrepid traveller and renowned writer Patrick Leigh Fermor fell in love with Mani’s rugged beauty, and with his wife Joan, built a house there, just outside Kardamyli village. Standing within a fragrant Mediterranean garden, that rolls down to the sea and private beach, it has been called ‘one of the most beautiful properties in Greece’. The Leigh Fermors bequeathed their home to the Benaki Museum as a creative space for artists but with the right to offer it as a rental for certain periods of the year. It is a very special part of our portfolio with a particular appeal to those who love history, beauty and culture.
The property has been meticulously conserved and consists of a Main House, with three double en-suite bedrooms, a Traditional House with one double bedroom, a study with Paddy’s writing desk in situ, and a further double en-suite in the self-contained Guest House. The whole property is exquisitely furnished in keeping with its elegant character and heritage. Of particular interest to book lovers are Paddy’s two well-stocked libraries.
Vaulted colonnades provide shade for al fresco dining and sitting or reading with further seating on the terrace, some under the shade of pergolas, and all with wonderful views. Within the beautiful garden, there are mosaics, and a fountain; a swimming pool with modern sun loungers is set amongst the olive groves. A little path leads down to the private beach and it’s only a short drive to Kardamyli, where there is a selection of good tavernas.
