Villa Filea is a spacious stone-built house in Sapsila, in Patmos between Skala port and Grikos. From its hillside position, there are fantastic views of the local bay to one side and the Aegean on the other. You can walk down to the quiet little beach; several other beaches are just a short drive or longer walk away. Around the bay are traditional old cottages and tamarisk trees overlooked by the Monastery of St. Nektarios. The excellent Benetos restaurant is also within walking distance and the historic capital Chora, is less than a 15-minute drive.
The house comfortably sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms, all with private bathrooms, two on the ground floor and a third on the second floor. The upstairs bedroom can be accessed by stairs from the inner courtyard. All bedrooms have sea views. Interiors are kept modern, simple and fresh, decorated in a palette of predominantly off-white and pale greys with modern art on the walls. There are two living rooms, one large and one smaller, both with views and access to the outside terrace. The open-plan kitchen dining area has a table for six. The villa has air conditioning and wifi.
In the inner courtyard, there’s a wonderful outdoor dining area with a long wooden table, plenty of seating and an outdoor kitchen. Stone walls protect a small saltwater pool from the wind and provide privacy when sunbathing. Stairs lead up to a roof terrace with superb views of the bay. It’s an excellent spot for sunbathing or to enjoy sunset drinks. You could easily spend the entire day at the villa and yet it’s easy to get out and about to explore this gem of an island.
