A cool-toned, stony haven in the heart of bustling Mallorca, Finca Es Rafal is a classic Spanish farmhouse with a delightful modern flair. The Finca is encased in its own verdant Mediterranean gardens, with views of the island’s many rolling hills and craggy peaks. Generous floor-to-ceiling windows flood each corner with golden sunshine, and among the beautifully kept lawns and vegetable plots are a manor of tempting spots for curling up with a holiday read.
Exposed wooden beams, natural linens, and rattan details are set off against the occasional flash of greenery or the ruggedness of an original stone wall. Varied and yet inevitably harmonious, the three king-sized bedrooms in the fincas’ main house are a vision of calm. Each is equipped with a sleek ensuite, and the master bedroom on the upper floor has a separate dressing room. On the lower floor, a spacious kitchen and high-ceilinged lounge signal the heart of the home, while upstairs is a second cosy living room and workspace to retreat to. Within the grounds of the finca is a second independent guest house with a king-sized ensuite bedroom, a kitchen, and an airy living space of its own.
Finca Es Rafal, a gratifying blend of stony hues and organic textures, has been lovingly thought out to reap the joys of its al fresco space. Large sliding doors lead out from the living areas to the sun-kissed terraces and turquoise pool, and there is a variety of shady dining areas from which you can enjoy the mountain views. On the manicured lawn is the sweeping saltwater pool, a choice of soft white loungers and sofas, and a jacuzzi for relaxing with an aperitif at sunset. Beside the largest outdoor dining table in the aromatic vegetable garden is a vast, stony pizza oven and barbecue—the most tempting spot for a lazy dinner after a game of tennis on the finca’s private court.
With a network of pretty cobbled streets and ancient buildings, this traditional town is brimming with possibility. Take a two-hour hike from the town centre to witness the impressive mediaeval ruins at Castell d’Alaro, with views of the entire Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range and settlements stretching all the way to the bay of Palma. Just as lovely is the thought of a gentle morning stroll for coffee in the town’s sun-kissed square or a 25-minute drive to Palma for golden coasts and sea-front eateries.
