At the foot of the Massif des Alpilles, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, Le Mas is a striking 18th-century Provencal villa set in extensive classic French gardens. Meticulously renovated to retain it’s historic character, whilst introducing bold contemporary furnishings and modern luxuries, it is a magical place. There’s plenty to explore from the nearby riding, hiking, and cycling trails to the wonderful local produce including rose and olive oils.
Where possible natural materials, such as clay, sand, lime and horsehair have been used and the rooms decorated in natural warm hues inspired by earth and stone. Throughout the house, you will find artwork collected over the years. There’s a large living room with soaring vaulted stone ceilings, two fully equipped kitchens, with both breakfast bar and formal dining space and eight air-conditioned bedrooms with Pierre Frey fabrics and large shuttered windows.
The gardens mix classic and contemporary design; there’s a historic cherub fountain, parterres, plane trees, a large modern heated pool and terraces for al fresco dining. You can pick vegetables from the vegetable patch and collect eggs from the hen house (great fun for children). There’s a wooden cabin for children and plenty of green space to run around and explore. A sanctified chapel at the end of the garden is a serene place to spend some time.
