It's fairly steep, so you can stop off to replenish your energies in the waterfront taverna before walking back up. The taverna also offers boat mooring by arrangement. The whole area is very scenic and the house has lovely, calming views across the verdant hillside to the sea beyond.
Wooden floors add earthy tones and help keep things cool in the heat of the summer, but there's a wood-burning stove in the sitting room for cooler evenings. There's plenty of space for a family, with an open-plan kitchen/dining room, a sitting room with doors to the terrace, and two bedrooms on the ground floor. The first-floor main suite has a private balcony and dressing room.
It's under the shade of the terrace, just outside the open-plan living space, so it's easy to pop in and out with food and drinks. There's also a private pool, surrounded by a terrace with sun beds and cushioned benches to lounge in the sun or sit under the shade of a parasol. One side of the pool terrace is flanked by a long bank of rosemary, which smells delicious if brushed past. Within the garden and olive grove, there are places to sit in the shade, spread out a blanket, and settle down with a good book.
Walking down takes 4-5 minutes, but double to back up. You can also walk to the charming coastal town of San Stefano in 20-25 minutes (or 5-minute drive), with a teenage friendly night life. Avlaki (5 mins drive) and Kalami (10 mins drive). The lovely town of Kassiopi (15-20 mins drive) has a good selection of shops and restaurants and some gentle nightlife - popular with teenagers. The cosmopolitan delights of Corfu Town are less than an hour's drive away.
